Notes on Verified Local Data

The businesses that win here aren't the loudest, only the most consistent.

Listing Hygiene: A Working Routine

  1. After you update. Record the canonical version of the list of services somewhere the operations team can find it.
  2. Ground rules. A workable routine is to standardise at the begin of every quarter and log every change with a date.
  3. Local search signals, briefly. Begin by pulling every existing record into one sheet before changing anything.
  4. Before you correct. Handle the high-authority sources by hand and batch the long tail afterwards.
  5. Business directories audit. Give one person the logins and one document the truth; ambiguity is what causes drift.

Write the Canonical Record Down

  • Month 2 The order matters: audit first, then map, and only then submit anywhere new.
  • Month 1 Set aside time to check before each campaign rather than treating it as a one-off project.
  • Quarter 1 Keep a change log; six months on, no one remembers which field was edited or why.
  • Week 1 Work from the aggregators outward, since fixing a source fixes everything downstream.
  • Month 2 What follows from this is that check by phone or postcode lookup, not by memory, regardless of sector.

Out of date

  • Authoritative directory submissions
  • Fixing contradictory data across sources
  • Cross-checking location pages
